'I'm petty like that. Somebody's gonna learn today': 10-year-old throws tantrum over her own cat visiting her neighbor's yard, the parents don't do anything, so the neighbor takes it into her own hands to teach her a lesson

Even though cats, as pets, are low-maintenance relatively to some other animals, there is still a whole lot that you need to know about them. Just like any other pet, cats have their own quirks. For example, you have to figure out how to get your cat to drink more water because sometimes, cats just don't feel like doing it. You have to learn some practical ways to enrich your cat's environment, because even though cats don't like doing too much, boredom can still be an issue with them. You need to learn your cat's language - to communicate with them in a way that they understand.

And you have to know, of course, that if you let your cat out, that will come with a whole other set of challenges. Like… your cat going to visit your neighbor sometimes. And if that neighbor is nice and likes cats, that cat might end up liking your neighbor too and visiting more often, and no, you cannot throw tantrums when that happens.

    Among the Wildflowers @deaflibertarian Yesterday I made a joke with the neighbor's daughter (like age 10?) that her cat was "my" cat since he's always hanging on my porch. (Backstory: We even made a box for him when it was winter time (remember that)? He chased away the birds so even our new bird feeders are untouched, but I never said anything. I just pet him when I'm outside and go on my business.)

    I told her I was just kidding. Her dad laughed. Then she proceeded to throw the BIGGEST fit like a toddler about "IT'S MY CAT! MY MY MY CAT!" She approached closer to me (almost less than 1 feet away and I held my arm out to stop her from getting closer. She proceeded to scream, "IT IS NOT FUNNY! YOU LEAVE MY CAT ALONE." The parents just stood there like it was normal.

  • Parents are supposed to parent, and we feel like that is something that was lost on this couple. Sure, maybe the kid's tantrum could be explained and understood, we could see that. But the parents still should have said something and not allowed the child to get so aggressive. 10 years old is old enough to know.

But when she came to me and asked me why the cat was on my porch, I made a joking comment that it must be mine now - and I said I was just joking- and then she went off.   • While we can agree with the sentiment of some of the people in the comments saying that this person should not have put a ten-year-old on blast, we have to disagree. They did not put the child on blast, no one knows who the child is. And if, somehow, this kid's parents come across this post, maybe they will understand the lesson. We think that's a win-win.

Many parents today are teaching their kids how to be experts in manipulation. Makes the kid feel like she is above others, and others better succumb. Parents need to learn to be stern and see this for what it is. The child will never grow up. Kids don't grow out of this behavior, and they turn into adults that continue
